Salt Lake City ski trip ski trip (December 2006):
Our 12th annual ski trip to Utah was another resounding success thanks to great snow conditions and superb trip organization by our trip leader Darlene Little. This was the largest group to date that has participated in this trip—18 skiers. We again stayed at the Red Lion Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City where they remember—favorably- the DDSC crew from our previous ski trips.
We skied four ski areas over the next four days—Alta, Solitude, Park City, and Deer Valley. Alta had no fresh snow on Friday but was a good warm-up including the “mandatory” Challenger run (black diamond, moguls, often icy and/or rocky). No trip to Alta can be called complete by some of us without this Challenger run—it’s like Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football. (Note: Carolyn’s comment was appropriate, “I’ve seen it worse!”) Solitude the next day was a treat with 8 inches of “freshies” on the slopes. It snowed most of Saturday night and all day Sunday when we went to Park City. This was the best snow we've ever had there with over 20 inches of powder. The stuff was over your knees and it took several runs to get used to it. It’s not often that you get conditions like this and we made the most of it. It was both exhilarating and exhausting and the brew at the Pig Pen bar was just reward afterward. Our last day, Monday, was a Bluebird day at Deer Valley. More un-groomed powder to end a wonderful trip.
